ABOUT THE JR SAIL PROGRAM

Great Lakes Yacht Club is once again pleased to offer our Jr. Sailing program. We will continue our program of teaching seamanship, basic sailing and competitive racing. Our programs are open to all member and non-member children between the ages of 9 and 17.

Our Jr. sailors train on a variety of boats from 22' Sonars to FJs, Lasers and Optimists. All instructors are experienced sailors, who are certified by the United States Sailing Association. Our Lasers are being refurbished this winter and will be in great racing condition. GLYC is busy preparing for this year's program.

We look forward to you sailing with us this summer.

CURRICULUM

We run two sailing programs. The Basic sailing program is for children that have never sailed before or are not comfortable sailing a boat by themselves. The Racing sailing programs is for children wanting to further their skills and are comfortable sailing alone. Both programs are designed for the DRYA/USSAA sailing circuit. All sailors may attend a weekly DRYA yacht club sponsored race, regardless of level of experience. This helps promote participation and greatly improves sailing skills

As the GLYC is a family orientated Boat Club we do provide for some flexibility in our schedule. Each two week session is Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 4:00. A child may attend any or all sessions. We can make adjustments to accommodate family vacations, football practice or other “sleepover camps” schedules.

  • Session 1: TBD
  • Session 2: TBD
    • Closed July 4th
  • Session 3: TBD
    • Closed week of Port Huron Mackinac Race
  • Session 4: TBD

Our instructors are also available to give lessons to adults by appointment only. Fee to be determined by GLYC based on the number of hours necessary.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to call Merryl Schwartz at 248-932-5199, or e-mail merryls@comcast.net or glyc@aol.com.
